The Music Festa Florence is a great initiative sponsored and organized by the Florence International Choir Festival dedicated to young musicians from all over the world and is open to young singers and instrumentalists. Last October 17-18, 2015, the UP College of Music conducted a 2-day curriculum review held at the One Tagaytay Place Hotel in Tagaytay, Laguna. The whole team of participants, was composed of 30 faculty members, 2 retired professors, and 9 secretariats from different offices of the college. Fun with Music Free Workshops Featuring the Orff Approach

Last September 4, 2015 from 10 am to 12 noon, one hundred and twenty seven teachers and students from the UP College of Music, College of Education, College of Home Economics, music education students of Adventist University of the Philippines accompanied by their professors, Nery Beratio and Jewel Solidum as well as teachers from Marist School, Miriam College, St. Scholastica's College Manila and Berea School attended the first of two Fun with Music free workshops featuring the Orff approach at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium. Students, teachers, and administration staff of the College partook of a solidarity meal on 1 September 2015, marking the beginning of the College’s 99th year. As per tradition, first week of September is termed “College Week” annually for it commemorates the foundation of the institution on 4 September 1916. Among the first students of the UP Conservatory in 1916 were pianist Lucia Francisco, vocal artists Paz Guidote and Petrona Ramos and composers Nicanor Abelardo and Francisco Santiago, the latter of who became the first Filipino to have gotten a doctorate in the science of music composition. Freshmen Music Majors Welcomed at the College

The UP College of Music Student Council organized this year’s Freshmen Welcome Assembly on August 4, 2015 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium. This was made after the welcome program spearheaded by the Chairs of the departments and the Administration Office on an earlier date. They gave the freshmen the opportunity to get to know their fellow young musicians and some practical information to help the latter adjust well in their journey as a music major. The College welcomed new doctoral and masteral students in music with an intellectual conversation with the eminent Filipino historian, anthropologist, and proponent of the Pantayong Pananaw ("We Perspective" or Indigenous Inclusive Filipino Worldview) -- Dr. Zeus Salazar. Through a partnership in research and development (instrument making) with O.C. Bandilla, Philippines, Dr. Joe Peters donated a “Singapore Model Prime Bandurria” to the College on 20 July 2015. Before the donation, Dr. Peters gave a lecture on the rondalla in Singapore, particularly on his three-decade long involvement in rondalla research and pedagogy. Read More

In the recently concluded 6th International Krakow Choir Festival "Cracovia Cantans" (11-14 June 2015) -- with no less than a jury composed of respected authorities in choral music such as Prof. Romuald Twardowski (Poland) as Jury Head, and Jury Members: Ko Matsushita (Japan), Irina Roganova (Russia), Javier Busto (Sweden) and Rihards Dubra (Latvia) -- the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC) was accorded the FIRST PLACE in Category A (Mixed Choir) besting nine other choirs from Norway, Hungary, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic and Estonia. Rey Ki, Chinese Filipino entrepreneur, frames Philippine sheet music from 1890s

Inspired by the effort of the College of Music library in preserving rare Philippine music manuscripts and prints, Chinese Filipino entrepreneur Rey Ki framed the covers of original Philippine music prints of "Jours de Retraite" (Suite of Valses) and "Los Ciclistas" (Tanda de Valses)  by Jose A. Estella (1870-1943) and donated these to the College on 10 December 2014.

Ena Aldecoa resumes teaching after advanced training in Germany
